I
recently received a message from a member who asked if I could explain the common
internet acronyms or give a link to where explanation can be found. IRT I have
written this short overview, HTH, GL, XOXO, CYL Did
you get that? DW you are not the only one. Sometimes it is difficult following
an online conversation with users well versed in internet acronyms. What does
ASL mean? What is BRB? BTW, IMHO, YRG? Today where
electronic messaging is so common, abbreviations or acronyms have become part
of day to day communication. At times there is slang to such a degree that some
new users have no clue of what the other chatters and posters are talking about. Most
internet slang has grown with groups of people actively involved in electronic
communities. Such terms typically originated with the purpose of saving keystrokes.
Today it is popularly accepted and used in phone text messaging as well as in
the online bulletin board systems, chats and emails. The popularity of instant
messaging services (like ICQ, AOL, Yahoo and MSN messengers) has expanded this
vocabulary dramatically. The amount of internet acronyms grows as users find faster
and more comfortable ways of expressing themselves through the keybord, these
may then become commonly accepted and used. Well
